Chef Sally Udhwani

Chef Sally Udhwani discovered early that food could bring people together across cultures, generations, and backgrounds. After moving to St. Croix in 1985 and completing her education, she began her professional path studying computer technology, but destiny had other plans.

Her restaurant career began at Denny's in Tampa, Florida, where her leadership and determination made her the youngest manager ever hired by the company. The experience gave her a strong foundation in restaurant operations and hospitality.

Returning home to the Virgin Islands, Sally helped her family with their roti business, Ruki Roti, where she fell in love with the craft of cooking and the expressive beauty of Caribbean and Indian flavors.

Her passion led her to Thali Indian Grill, where her husband and culinary partner, Gary Udhwani, further refined her expertise in Indian cuisine. Together, they built successful culinary ventures and established Thali Indian Grill as one of the U.S. Virgin Islands' premier dining destinations, known for its bold flavors, creativity, and warm hospitality.

Achievements & Certifications

In 2021, Sally made history as the first female Chef de Cuisine in the U.S. Virgin Islands certified by the American Culinary Federation (ACF). She also holds the distinction of being one of only two female Certified Executive Chefs in the territory. Today, she proudly serves as Vice President of the ACF Virgin Islands Chapter, mentoring aspiring chefs and advocating for women's leadership in the culinary industry.
